Marcel Brauer, 1925
The Wassily chair, also known as the Model B3 chair, was designed by Marcel Breuer for the constructivist painter Wassily Kandinsky. Both, at the time (1925), worked at the Bauhaus school in Dessau. This chair was revolutionary in the use of materials (canvas and nickel-plated steel tubing bent) and methods of production. It is said that Breuer's Adler bicycle inspired him to use steel tubing to build the chair, and this proved to be an excellent material being readily available in large quantities. Prizes: The Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA, 1968; Recognized as "art piece", Germany 1982
